MEDS|POD is an integrated point-of-dispensing solution for large scale dispensing operations. The system is scaleable, easily configured, set up, and used. MEDS|POD is fully functional as a multi-user standalone application for which internet access is not required.
MEDS|POD addresses a common issue confronting organizations planning for mass prophylaxis operations- the need to achieve high patient throughput. MEDS|POD goes a step further, adding clinical safety measures not available in other systems. The embedded Decision Support Service identifies patient risk, routes the patient to the appropriate level of care, and recommends a medication. With MEDS|POD you can achieve high patient throughput with confidence.
The system includes a patient registration module and facilitates mass prophylaxis efforts at the Point of Dispensing with far fewer clinicians than manual models.
Overview
MEDS|POD is a tool to improve mass prophylaxis operations. When a point of dispensing (POD) site or clinic is needed, an event will be quickly configured within the MEDS|POD software. Once the event and its associated data are defined in the system, the MEDS|POD system can be set up and the physical POD can begin operations.
Patients will enter the POD according to your organization's planned procedure. Patient Health Assessment forms that are consistent with the MEDS|POD registration screens are generated by the system. The form includes health information questions for the patient relevant to the medications likely to be dispensed. The form is typically completed by the patient during patient education/orientation to the POD. The Registration staff input the data from the forms into the system. The Decision Support module assesses patient risk and makes a medication recommendation. At the completion of Registration, patients receive a summary printout and instructions on where to proceed next. Patients are routed within the POD to dispensing stations that best suit their medical needs. Patients receive their medications (or vaccinations) and exit the POD. Drug inventories and patient flow can be monitored in real time. Adjustments can be easily made to the patient flow and station setup in order to keep clinic efficiency and patient throughput at the defined level.

MEDS|POD Technology
MEDS|POD is composed of the following elements:
- MEDS|POD software - resides on a single server located in the clinic or as a central remote server.
- Client Machines - Computers used as workstations for Registration and Dispense areas are available with the MEDS|POD system. Additional Client Machines from your existing inventory or facilities can be easily connected. The Client Machines only require a web browser and Adobe Acrobat Reader. No additional software is installed on the Client Machine.
- Wireless or Wired Network configurations can be used. A wireless Access Point/Router or Network Switch is used to connect the server to the Client Machines.
- Printers - Printers are connected to the server via the network or may be connected directly to the Client Machines. The printers are used to print patient health summaries that aid with patient routing within the POD. Printers located at the dispensing stations are used to print medication labels and patient medication information.
